US President Donald Trump believes Ukraine is ready for a ceasefire but needs time to assess Kyiv's efforts to achieve this goal.
He stated this during an event in the White House's Oval Office in honor of law enforcement agencies.
"I said, the Ukrainians are ready for a ceasefire. They are ready for peaceful negotiations," he emphasized.
When asked by a journalist whether Ukraine is taking sufficient steps to achieve this, Trump said he needs time to conclude.
"I'd better tell you in about two weeks because I can't say yes or no. Zelensky is a strong guy. He's not easy to deal with, but he wants to stop. I hope the answer is that he wants to solve this problem," Trump added.
