US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, said that Trump has “issued an ultimatum” to Russia and Ukraine, demanding progress towards a lasting peace or the US will withdraw from its role as mediator.
“The president has given an ultimatum to both sides, stating that if direct negotiations do not happen soon, then in his opinion, the United States should withdraw from this process, whatever that means, and simply not get involved,” Witkoff said.
“We want to act as a mediator in this matter. This is not our war. We did not start the war but want to help end it. The way to do that is through a ceasefire, where everyone stops the violence, and we work together for a while to ensure we can solve the fundamental problems here. And I think that is possible,” he stressed.
