Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced late on May 7 that Ukraine’s proposal for a ceasefire with Russia is valid for at least 30 days. According to him, this provides an opportunity to find a diplomatic solution, but Russia is not responding; it is only responding to new attacks.
Zelensky’s statement came on the eve of a three-day ceasefire announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin, which will last from May 8 to 10.
Kyiv opposes a short-term ceasefire and insists on the US-backed proposal for a 30-day truce. Zelensky also spoke about the Russian attacks on Ukraine on May 7 and stressed that “it is fair that even the Russian sky is not peaceful.”
