German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is the only minister to remain in his post after the new government is formed. He is known as an outspoken and pragmatic politician who is highly respected in the military and society.
Pistorius, who took office in January 2023, has been actively involved in the rearmament of the German armed forces and providing assistance to Ukraine. Under the new centrist government, he will lead the Bundeswehr with an unprecedented budget to increase the military's combat readiness.
The minister will have tremendous funding in the coming years to eliminate the long-standing underfunding of the armed forces. Pistorius will also continue to play a key role in NATO and support Ukraine.
