Israel has struck a target very close to the presidential palace in the Syrian capital, Damascus. This was announced on Friday, May 2, by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a joint statement with Defense Minister Israel Katz.
“This is a clear signal to the Syrian regime. We will not allow the deployment of troops south of Damascus or any threat to the Druze community,” he said.
According to him, this is the second time in as many days that Israel has struck Syria.
The agency notes that the strikes demonstrate Israel’s deep distrust of Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa.
The United States has strongly condemned the violence against the Druze minority in Syria.
Recall that on the night of April 29, fighting broke out in the suburbs of Damascus between pro-government forces and Druze. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), more than 100 people have been killed in two days.
