Lavrov and Rubio had a phone conversation

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a telephone conversation. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, they discussed issues related to the Russian-American dialogue and the Ukrainian crisis.

“The parties continued a productive exchange of views on the main issues of the Russian-American political dialogue, which has recently become significantly more active. The main attention was focused on the Ukrainian crisis,” the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.

Considering that the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff took place on April 25, the Foreign Ministry’s statement emphasizes that the conversation occurred within the logic of that meeting. “The Minister and the Secretary of State emphasized the importance of forming and consolidating the necessary prerequisites for the launch of negotiations to establish a long-term, stable peace,” the statement says.

During the telephone conversation, a number of other international issues were also discussed. The parties agreed to continue contact on all levels.
