A senior Vatican source said cardinals will gather in a secret conclave on May 7 to elect a new pope. The date was set during a closed-door meeting at the Vatican following Pope Francis's funeral.
About 135 cardinals under 80 worldwide will participate in the conclave.
The previous two conclaves lasted just two days in 2005 and 2013.
