Reuters reports that the United States is preparing to offer Saudi Arabia an arms package worth more than $100 billion.
The offer will be announced during President Donald Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia in May.
The offer follows a failed attempt by former President Joe Biden’s administration to sign a defense deal with Riyadh. It was part of a broader deal to normalize relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel. Biden’s offer included access to more advanced American weapons in exchange for halting arms purchases from China and limiting Beijing’s investments.
The White House and the Saudi government communications office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
A Pentagon official said: “Under President Trump’s leadership, our defense relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is stronger than ever. Maintaining security cooperation remains an important component of this partnership, and we will continue to work with Saudi Arabia to meet their defense needs.”
