On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the Genocide, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a message of condolences to the Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey and the Armenian community in Turkey. Erdogan has been sending a message of condolences every April 24 since 2012.
"This year, we remember with respect the Armenian citizens of the Ottoman Empire who lost their lives in the difficult conditions of World War I. I express my deepest condolences to their descendants.
As 86 million people, we believe that the painful memories of the past should not overshadow our present and future. It is necessary to build our tomorrow with joint efforts. Those who try to incite hostility from the pages of history and undermine our strong ties have never achieved their goal.
Whatever the reason, we have never tolerated and will not accept our citizens being subjected to discrimination or isolation. "With these thoughts, I once again sincerely share the past suffering of the Armenian community and respectfully remember the fallen Ottoman citizens," Erdogan's message reads.
