Russia has bombed Kyiv overnight with missiles and drones, killing at least eight people, wounding more than 70, and destroying several buildings, Reuters reports. It is the most significant attack on the Ukrainian capital this year.
The strikes have sparked fires. Six children are among the injured, and some civilians are still trapped under the rubble, officials say.
Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha wrote on the X platform that the “brutal strikes” show that Russia, not Ukraine, is the one obstructing peace. There has been no official response from Russia to the attack.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the eight deaths, although initial reports had put the number at nine.
