US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced a comprehensive restructuring of the State Department, which will reduce many of the department's foreign programs and dismiss a significant part of the staff.
According to him, the Foreign Ministry is bloated, bureaucratized, and committed to a "radical political ideology." Rubio noted that initiatives that "do not correspond to America's fundamental national interests" will be stopped.
In particular, he announced that the department that was engaged in monitoring human rights violations abroad, as well as war crimes and genocide issues, would be liquidated.
Rubio described this unit as "a platform for left-wing activists to carry out vendettas against conservative leaders." He cited Poland, Hungary, and Brazil as examples, noting that leaders ideologically close to former President Trump lost power in Poland and Brazil.
State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said, "We face serious challenges worldwide as we pursue President Trump's 'America First' foreign policy. We must reorganize and strengthen the State Department. In its current state, it is bloated, bureaucratized, and unable to respond to the diplomatic demands of a new era of great-power competition."
