Trump prevented Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities: NYT

US President Donald Trump has blocked Israel's planned attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, preferring to achieve a diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear program. The New York Times reported this, citing sources.

According to the newspaper, Israel developed a plan for an attack as early as May 2024, aimed at delaying Iran's ability to develop nuclear weapons by at least a year. However, the successful implementation of the attack depended on US military and technical support, as well as the need to protect Israel from possible retaliation from Iran. After lengthy discussions, Trump decided not to support the attack and instead began negotiations with Iran.

Recall that the US and Iran held talks in Oman. Both sides described the talks as "positive" and "constructive." The second round of negotiations is expected to take place next Saturday. According to a source close to the process, the meeting will most likely be held in Rome.
