US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to a "permanent peace agreement" with Ukraine.
Witkoff said in an interview with Fox News that he sees a peace agreement "taking shape" and that Putin's two top advisers, Yuri Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev, participated in an "important meeting."
"Putin's request is for a permanent peace here. So, in addition to a ceasefire, we have an answer to that question," Witkoff said, admitting that "it took some time to come to that conclusion."
"This peace agreement covers five areas, but it's about much more than just those.
It's about security protocols, NATO, Article 5 - there are a lot of details," he stressed.
He added that trade deals between Russia and the United States were also part of the talks.
"I think there is an opportunity to change Russian-American relations through some beautiful trade opportunities, which I think will also provide real stability in the region," he said.
