Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said during his visit to Beijing that China is an important partner for the EU and that Spain has always supported the sustainable development of EU-China relations. "The EU is committed to the principles of open and free trade and multilateralism and opposes the imposition of unilateral tariffs."
He stressed that there would be no winners in a tariff war. "In a complex and serious international situation, Spain and the EU are ready to strengthen ties and cooperation with China, uphold the international trade order, work together to combat climate change and poverty, and safeguard the common interests of the international community."
Sanchez also emphasized Spain's position on the Ukraine issue, calling Xi Jinping to start a dialogue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to achieve peace. He noted that peace must ensure "the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the occupied country."
