"A deal to sell TikTok is 'on the table'." Trump

Reuters reports that US President Donald Trump said a potential deal to sell TikTok's assets in the US was still "on hold" days after he suspended it.

Several US senators have criticized the proposed deal, but Trump has defended the plan.

"We have a deal with some very good people and wealthy companies that would do a great job, but we'll have to wait and see what happens with China. It's being discussed, on the table, and essential," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

On Friday, Trump extended a deadline for China-based ByteDance to divest its US assets from the short-video app, which 170 million Americans use, or face a ban. The deal must be completed by June 19, when the ban would take effect. Trump has twice delayed the ban, which was initially scheduled to take effect in January. The deal would see TikTok's US operations spun off into a new U.S.-based company, with a majority stake in the company controlled by American investors.
