China to restrict screening of Hollywood films

The State Administration of Film and Television of the People's Republic of China reported that, amid the escalation of the tariff confrontation with the United States, the Chinese authorities intend to limit the screening of American films in the country.

"The wrong actions of the US government to impose unfair tariffs on China will inevitably lead to a further decline in the audience's interest in American films," the State Administration of Film and Television of China said. "The US government should take measures against American films. We will follow the market's rules, respect the audience's choice, and moderately reduce the number of films imported from the United States," it said.

China was once Hollywood's most significant international market. However, amid the deterioration of relations between the two countries, the number of American films in Chinese box offices has decreased in recent years.
