The Hungarian government has decided not to support the imposition of retaliatory tariffs on US goods in the European Union, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said. Hungary believes the trade dispute with the US should be resolved through negotiations.
“Even if the European Union imposes high tariffs, this will not be the best response to the tariffs imposed by the US. The best solution is negotiations. That is why we will not support the proposal. European tariffs will only worsen the situation and lead to higher prices. We do not want the Hungarian people to suffer from this,” Szijjártó said in a video broadcast on M1 television.
