US President Donald Trump has said he has received many calls from countries after the new tariffs were announced.
"These countries are calling me and kissing my ass. They're looking forward to making a deal," Trump said hours before the new tariffs were set to take effect.
He described foreign leaders "bowing down" to him to avoid the new tariffs. "Please, sir, make a deal. I'll do anything, sir," they said, mocking Trump.
At the same time, Trump has said he is confident in his decisions: "I know what I'm doing."
