China demands equality and respect from US in trade talks

At a briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said that if Washington wants to hold trade talks with Beijing, it should act from a position of equality and respect.

The diplomat noted that the US’s recent steps show it is unwilling to engage in serious dialogue.

“If the US sincerely wants to negotiate, it should choose the principles of equality, respect, and reciprocity,” he said, answering a reporter’s question about whether trade talks between China and the US were underway.

Lin Jian stressed that if the US ignores the interests of the two countries and the international community by starting tariffs or a trade war, “China will fight to the end.”

US President Donald Trump had announced the imposition of “reciprocal” tariffs.
