Axios sources told The Associated Press that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will visit the White House on Monday.
If the visit goes ahead as planned, Netanyahu will be the first foreign leader to meet in person with President Trump to try to negotiate a deal to lift Trump's tariffs.
The leaders are also expected to discuss the Iran nuclear crisis and the war in Gaza. To visit this week, however, Netanyahu must ask the judges in his corruption trial to cancel a scheduled hearing, during which he was expected to continue his testimony.
Sources say the plan could still change, in large part because of that. Israel has sought to avoid tariffs that Trump has imposed on nearly every country by saying it would preemptively remove all tariffs on American goods.
Trump's 17% tariff on Israel was based on the U.S.'s large bilateral trade deficit.
A senior Israeli official said Netanyahu believes the chances of a U.S.-Iran nuclear deal are too low and wants to reach an understanding with Trump on striking Iranian nuclear facilities. Trump and Netanyahu are also likely to discuss the return of hostages and a new ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. About failed efforts, the newspaper writes.
