The death toll from a devastating earthquake in Myanmar has reached 3,085, with more than 4,715 injured, the country's authorities said. A week of mourning has been declared in the country since April 1.
Three days after the earthquake, AFP reports that there is little hope of finding survivors in the rubble of collapsed buildings. Hot weather has hampered rescue efforts, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius.
In the city of Mandalay, not far from the epicenter of the earthquake, the heat has accelerated the decomposition of the bodies of the dead, which could make it difficult to identify them, the agency notes.
