The Associated Press reports that the record for the longest speech in the history of the US Senate has been broken. The record holder is Democrat Cory Booker, who spent more than a day speaking against the incumbent president, Republican Donald Trump.
Booker began his speech on Monday evening, March 31, and finished after over 25 hours and 5 minutes. Thus, he surpassed the record set 67 years ago, in 1957, by Senator Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, who took 24 hours and 18 minutes during his speech on adopting the Civil Rights Act.
In particular, Booker spoke about the consequences of Trump's first executive orders. He expressed concern about the massive reduction of the Social Security system and the annexation of Greenland and Canada.
