The head of the Russian National Welfare Foundation, Kirill Dmitriev, will visit Washington by the end of this week to meet with Steve Witkoff, the US president's special representative. The meeting will discuss strengthening relations between the two countries, CNN reported, citing its sources.
The visit of a Russian official to Washington will be the first since 2022 and marks the warming of relations between the two countries.
Dmitriev is a close adviser to Putin. In February, he visited Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) with other Russian officials to participate in settlement discussions to end the war in Ukraine.
Dmitriev also worked with Witkoff on negotiations to release American teacher Mark Fogel.
The media outlet notes that US authorities have temporarily lifted sanctions against Dmitriev, allowing the State Department to issue him a visa to enter the United States.
