Court finds Marine Le Pen guilty

A Paris court has found Marine Le Pen guilty of embezzling European Parliament funds, French broadcaster BFMTV reported.

Marine Le Pen, leader of France's far-right National Rally party, and her supporters are accused of embezzling European Parliament funds. According to the investigation, between 2004 and 2016, they siphoned off about 3 million euros from the European Parliament's funds by hiring fake assistants and using the money to achieve their political goals within the country.

The court has not decided whether Le Pen can run in the 2027 presidential election. The French prosecutor's office has demanded that she be banned from political activity for five years. If such a decision is made, she cannot run for president. Le Pen is expected to appeal the court's decision.
