Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed discussing the issue of introducing an interim government in Ukraine under the auspices of the UN and several countries so that elections can be held there.
“In principle, it would be possible to discuss, under the auspices of the UN, with the US, with European countries, of course, with our partners and friends, the possibility of introducing an interim government in Ukraine to hold democratic elections, bring to power a functioning government that enjoys the trust of the people, and then begin negotiations with them on a peace treaty,” Putin said.
Putin believes that with the Ukrainian government formed under such conditions, it will be possible to sign “legitimate documents that will be recognized throughout the world and will be reliable.”
“But this is only one of the options. I am not saying that others do not exist, but this is one of the options, and there is such a practice in the work of the UN,” he added.
