Prominent opposition TV channel banned in Turkey

Turkey’s regulatory body, the Supreme Council of Radio and Television, has banned Sözcü TV for 10 days and restricted five programs on Halk TV and Tele 1 for “inciting hatred” during their coverage of protests in support of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

NOW TV and Akı TV channels have also been fined. The opposition (Özgür Özel, CHP) called it a “gross violation of democratic norms and censorship.”
