Russia is ready to agree to a ceasefire in the Black Sea, but it will do so in exchange for the lifting of sanctions, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced.
According to Rubio, some conditions include sanctions that the United States has not imposed. "Some of those conditions include sanctions that the European Union imposed. So when our people come back, we will sit down at the table, discuss the proposals, get their impressions from the conversations, and better understand Russia's position and what they want in return," he said.
He added that the United States now needs to assess Russia's demands. Rubio explained that US officials will work to "more fully understand what Russia's position is or what they are asking for in return" and then present the Russian position to President Donald Trump, who will determine the next steps for the United States.
According to him, the fact that a ceasefire is being discussed is already positive. "I think that" it's good that both the Ukrainians and the Russians are talking about a ceasefire or energy, or maybe the Black Sea," Rubio emphasized.
