North Korea sends 3,000 additional troops to Russia

North Korea sent about 3,000 additional troops to Russia in January and February as part of its continued support for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine, South Korea’s military said in its latest assessment on Thursday.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korea is also sending more missiles, artillery, and ammunition to help Russia.

The military equipment North Korea has sent to Russia includes a significant number of short-range ballistic missiles, 170-millimeter self-propelled howitzers, and about 220 units of 240-millimeter multiple rocket launchers.

North Korea has sent about 11,000 troops to fight in Ukraine, its first significant engagement in a conflict since the 1950-53 Korean War, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff estimated that about 4,000 were killed or wounded.
