Deputy Defense Minister Pawel Bejda said Poland will place anti-personnel mines on the border with Russia and Belarus as part of the Eastern Shield project. To this end, Poland will withdraw from the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits using such weapons.
Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia also intend to follow Poland's example. All four countries are members of the European Union and NATO.
When asked about Poland's reasons for withdrawing from the Ottawa Convention, Bejda said the country has no alternative since the border situation is serious.
"Don't forget from which side the attack on Ukraine was carried out - from the territory of Belarus," Bejda added.
