Israel has carried out airstrikes in various parts of the Gaza Strip, killing more than 200 people.
Many Palestinians were killed, including women and children, Al Jazeera reported. Hamas said Israel had carried out a "treacherous" attack on besieged and defenseless civilians, aiming to disrupt a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Palestinian Islamic Jihad accused Israel of "deliberately undermining" the ceasefire, which has been in place since January 19, 2025.
A statement from the Israeli Prime Minister's Office said that Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz had instructed the military to "take decisive measures" against Hamas. "This comes after Hamas repeatedly refused to release our hostages and rejected the US President's special envoy, Steve. "All proposals received from Witkoff and the mediators," Netanyahu's office said.
"The IDF is currently striking Hamas terrorist organization targets throughout the Gaza Strip to achieve the war goals set by the political leadership, including the release of all our hostages, both living and dead," the statement said.
