Naples prepares for mass evacuation

Residents of Naples and the surrounding area are worried after a recent 4.4-magnitude earthquake. The Phlegraean Fields, considered one of the most dangerous volcanic areas in the world, have begun to become more active. In response to the potential threat, Italy’s Civil Protection Ministry has declared a national mobilization regime.

“We are considering all possible options so that we are not caught by surprise in the event of further tremors,” said Minister Nello Musumeci.

If the situation worsens, the government plans to evacuate about 500,000 people within three days to avoid the deadly effects of ash, rocks, and hot gas residues.

The authorities plan to warn the population if signs of an eruption occur. For evacuation, assembly points have been planned outside the danger zone, where people will be safely transported by buses, trains, boats, and planes.
