The EU will impose retaliatory tariffs on American goods starting April 13

The European Commission announced today that the EU will impose retaliatory tariffs on 26 billion euros worth of American goods from April. The body is responding to the US's general tariffs on steel and aluminum.

It should be noted that the 25% tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on steel and aluminum imports also entered into force today.

The European Commission announced it will end the current suspension of tariffs on American goods from April 1. It will also present a new countermeasures package against US goods by mid-April.

"Our countermeasures will be introduced in two steps, starting from April 1 and fully effective from April 13," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement.
