Georgia deepens relations with Iran. Transparency International

Transparency International Georgia reports that Georgia's economic relations with Iran have expanded significantly over the past 12 years.

While 2,370 companies were registered in Georgia by Iranian citizens from 2000 to 2012, the number has already quadrupled to 9,300 from 2013 to 2024.

In 2012, 82,885 visitors from Iran visited, and that number doubled to 145,670 in 2024.

Direct investments from Iran amounted to $8 million from 2001 to 2012, and they increased fivefold to $40 million from 2013 to 2024.

In 2012, Georgia's trade turnover with Iran amounted to $119 million ($19 million in exports, $101 million in imports), and in 2024, it increased 2.7 times to $322 million ($37 million in exports, $285 million in imports).

Along with deepening economic relations, the Georgian Dream government has become politically closer to the Iranian government. In 2024, Irakli Kobakhidze attended the funeral of the former President of the Islamic Republic, Ebrahim Raisi, and the inauguration ceremony of the new President, Masoud Pezeshkian.
