Hungary and Slovakia also signed the EU declaration

Hungary and Slovakia have also signed a statement protecting the European Union from Russia and Belarus.

This is noteworthy in that the two countries' leaders differ from other EU leaders in their pro-Russian and anti-Ukrainian views.

The text of the joint statement of the 27 EU leaders reads in one of the paragraphs: "The European Council underlines that the protection of all land, air, and sea borders of the EU contributes to the security of all of Europe, especially when it comes to the EU's eastern border, taking into account the threats emanating from Russia and Belarus."

The leaders unanimously approved this statement of all 27 countries, including Hungary and Slovakia.

Let us recall that an extraordinary summit of EU leaders was held in Brussels. The agenda included support for Ukraine and Europe's defense capacity.

EU countries failed to adopt a statement of support for Ukraine because Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban opposed it.
