Four senior members of Donald Trump’s inner circle have held secret talks with some of Volodymyr Zelensky’s primary political opponents, Politico reported, citing sources.
They have been talking with senior representatives of Yulia Tymoshenko and Petro Poroshenko’s parties.
According to the newspaper, the discussions focused on whether Ukraine can hold early presidential elections.
When asked by Politico whether Tymoshenko has participated in negotiations with members of the US administration regarding the presidential election or peace talks, her spokeswoman Natalya Lysova said: “We will not comment on this yet.”
Poroshenko’s European Solidarity party also told the newspaper that they aim to hold free and fair post-war elections.
“Our goal is not to insist on holding elections, but to ensure free and fair competitive post-war elections in our country,” Poroshenko’s team said.
