The tariff "war" between the US and China, Canada, and Mexico has begun

US tariffs on imports from China, Mexico, and Canada have come into effect.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico and a 20% tariff on imports from China, doubling the initial tariffs.

“Although President Trump has given Canada and Mexico ample opportunity to stop the dangerous activities of cartels and the flow of deadly drugs into our country, they have failed to respond adequately,” the White House said in a statement.

In response, Canada announced that it would impose 25% tariffs on American goods. Mexico also promised retaliatory measures.

Shortly after, China’s Ministry of Finance announced additional tariffs of 10-15% on agricultural products imported from the United States. They will come into effect on March 10.

China has also added 15 American companies to an export control list, effective today.
