French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have proposed a month-long ceasefire in Ukraine, President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview with French newspaper Le Figaro.
In an interview with Le Figaro, Macron said he and Starmer proposed a month-long ceasefire: "a ceasefire in the air, at sea and in energy infrastructure."
Macron said the ceasefire would be the first phase, with the deployment of troops to ensure peace later.
"There will be no European troops on Ukrainian territory in the coming weeks. The question is how we use this time to try to reach a possible ceasefire through negotiations that will last several weeks and then the deployment of troops after signing a peace agreement," Macron said.
Speaking to reporters before leaving the UK, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was aware of Macron and Starmer's initiative. Asked if he knew about the plan, Zelensky replied: "I know everything."
