The Wall Street Journal reports that US President Donald Trump plans to sign an executive order making English the only official language at the federal level for the first time.
The publication explains that the order will repeal an order by former US President Bill Clinton, which required agencies and other recipients of federal funding to provide language assistance to people who do not speak English. Now, such services will remain possible but not mandatory.
The White House explained the initiative as necessary to improve government efficiency and strengthen national unity.
