The agreement on the extraction of minerals between the United States and Ukraine cannot be exclusively economic since security guarantees are needed during war.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, expressed this opinion.
“The economic interests of the United States must be preserved and protected, but, in my opinion, this must be accompanied by security guarantees,” the EU representative said.
Kallas also noted that large American companies worked in Ukraine both before the war and now, but this did not save the country from the large-scale invasion and constant bombing by Russia. In her opinion, businesses alone are not a sufficient guarantee of security.
