UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with US President Donald Trump at the White House.
The Guardian reports that Trump insisted that Vladimir Putin can be trusted and that he will “keep his word” on a peace deal in Ukraine.
When asked by reporters, Trump refused to specifically promise whether the US would provide troops to support the European-led peacekeeping force. He only noted that the US would “always” help British troops if needed, which he said was unlikely.
He later hinted that the US would sign “great trade deals” with the UK.
At the start of the meeting, Starmer conveyed to Trump an invitation from UK King Charles III to make a second state visit to the UK. Starmer stressed that extending such an invitation to a US president was unprecedented.
Trump said he would gladly accept the invitation.
