According to a document submitted to the court by the US Department of Defense, transgender soldiers must be excluded from the military unless they receive special permission. The department effectively prohibits them from being drafted into the military or continuing to serve.
US President Donald Trump signed an order on transgender soldiers back in January. It states, in particular, that a man who identifies as a woman “does not meet the commitment required by military service.”
