Germany suspends German-Georgian scientific cooperation

The German Ministry of Education and Research has suspended German-Georgian scientific cooperation, as announced by the German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer.

“The ministry has frozen the modernization of scientific cooperation, including student mobility, research, and European programs, due to the restriction of academic freedom in Georgia and the termination of its membership in the EU. Georgians, who mainly study at German universities on scholarships, realize the significance of this loss,” the ambassador wrote.

At the same time, Fischer notes that almost 1 million euros in funding from the German Ministry of Education are still maintained.

“At the moment, this has also not affected our scholarship programs, such as the DAAD, although Germany is monitoring and reviewing all aspects of its relations with Georgia,” the ambassador wrote.
