"We told the Russians, 'Do you want to end the war or continue it?'" Rubio

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is pushing back on claims that the Trump administration has sidelined Ukraine in discussions about the ongoing war with Russia. The secretary called the claims “inaccurate.”

“I think the president was angry, and rightly so, because we haven’t talked to Ukraine for some reason,” Rubio said on Fox & Friends on Wednesday.

He noted that President Donald Trump contacted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shortly after his recent call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I was on both calls. He called Zelensky immediately,” Rubio said.

Asked by a reporter if there had been any recent downplaying of Ukraine and elevating of Russia, Rubio said there had been no such thing.

“We told them [Russia], ‘Guys, do you want to end the war, or do you want to continue?’ If you want to end the war, we can discuss what it would take from your perspective. Tell us now if you want to continue the war,” Rubio said.

According to Rubio, Russian officials have agreed to a follow-up meeting, during which diplomatic teams from both sides will discuss possible terms for ending the war.
