A joint press conference of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and foreign leaders has started in Kyiv on the occasion of the 3rd anniversary of the Russian large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
European Council President Antonio Costa said that this war is about Ukraine and European security. Europe must also be at the negotiating table.
"On March 6, the European Council will discuss the possibility of appointing a special representative who will represent not only the EU but also all European countries in peace talks," he noted.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says everything depends on Russia's desire to achieve peace.
"As long as there is no long-term peace agreement, it is too early to talk about lifting sanctions. These talks can only occur after we see some concrete steps from the Russian side.
The sanctions have greatly impacted the Russian economy, with inflation increasing significantly. "This is part of our initiative to achieve peace through strength," he said.
