Merz will not cooperate with AfD

Friedrich Merz, the chancellor candidate of the CDU/CSU alliance that won the German election, has announced that he is not considering forming a coalition with the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. He stresses that he has fundamental differences with the AfD on key issues, including foreign policy and security.

“They want the opposite of what we think is right. That is why there will be no cooperation,” he said.

Merz added that his alliance aims to form a government representing all German citizens and quickly solving the country’s problems.
