German automakers call on EU to follow US lead

The German Automobile Manufacturers Association (VDA) has warned of the potential damage of a US import tariff hike on cars and called on the European Union to make concessions to Washington.

"The 25% tariff level announced by President Trump is a provocation," said Hildegard Müller, head of the VDA, Reuters reports.

According to her, if Trump raises tariffs on imported cars, it will hit EU exports to the US and harm the well-being of both continents.

If Brussels decides to respond to the US with retaliatory tariffs, this will become a drag that ultimately leads to higher prices for consumers.

"Instead of the promised fight against inflation, US President Donald Trump will only promote it," said the head of the VDA. He called on the European Union to meet the US.
