"Russia is in favor of new meetings." Lavrov's main statements

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke in the State Duma, declaring that Moscow and Washington must clean up the legacy left by former US President Joe Biden's administration, which, according to him, undermined the foundations of long-term cooperation between the two countries.

Lavrov's main statements:

  • The conditions for talks on security and strategic stability can be created, as yesterday's talks showed that normalizing relations in all directions is already beginning.
  • US President Donald Trump understands Russia's position on NATO. He was the first and, perhaps, the only Western leader who openly stated that one of the reasons for the Ukrainian crisis was the previous administration's strict policy of drawing Ukraine into NATO.
  • The US assured Riyadh that it is interested in removing pointless obstacles from the path of bilateral economic projects. We only welcome this.
  • Russia favors new meetings that allow us to listen to and understand each other.
  • Russia is developing cooperation with countries on all continents, some of which relations have reached the level of strategic partnership.
  • The main goal is to create a secure and favorable external environment contributing to Russia's sustainable development.
  • Russia's vision of the world order is based on the principle of multipolarity, a historical process that develops in the context of objective trends.
  • It is planned to create an organization in the Eurasian space that will unite all the region's countries.
  • The G20 platform should be a tool for Western partners to learn to cooperate on principles based on respect rather than dictating their unilateral solutions.
  • The results of the Russian delegation's visit to Syria are incredibly positive.
  • Moscow and Damascus are planning high-level meetings next week.
  • Syria understands the historical context and strategic importance of relations with Russia.
