US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sunday that Ukraine and Europe would be involved in any “real negotiations” with Moscow to end the war, suggesting that U.S. talks with Russia this week are an opportunity to see how serious Russian President Vladimir Putin is about peace.
In an interview with CBS, Rubio said the negotiation process has not yet begun in earnest, and if the talks move forward, the Ukrainians and the Europeans will be involved.
“Now, it has to be followed by action, so the next few weeks and days will determine whether this is serious. Ultimately, one phone call will not lead to reconciliation,” Rubio said.
