Three Israeli hostages to be released

Hamas vows to release three hostages on Saturday. The reneging on earlier agreements has put a truce in Gaza under attack.

Hamas accused Israel on Monday of failing to meet its commitments and postponed further hostage releases. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that if Hamas does not return the hostages by Saturday, hostilities in Gaza will resume with renewed vigor.

Qatari mediators on Thursday expressed cautious optimism, saying that nothing is lost. Israel has not yet commented on the progress of the talks but has said it is demanding the release of three live hostages on Saturday by the agreement.

“Hamas has confirmed to Egyptian officials its readiness… to carry out the sixth prisoner exchange by the deadline set for Saturday if Israel fulfills its obligations,” the AP wrote, citing another official involved in the talks.
