Trump announced that he will meet with Russian and Ukrainian officials today

US President Donald Trump has announced that US and Russian officials will meet in Munich, and Ukraine has also been invited. Still, Kyiv has responded that it does not expect to hold talks with Russia in the German city.

"They will have a meeting in Munich tomorrow. Russia will be there with our people. Ukraine is also invited, by the way. I don't know who exactly will be there, but there will be high-level officials from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States," Trump told reporters.

The Russian embassy in Washington and the UN mission in New York did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Trump's remarks.

"There will be a meeting tomorrow in Munich and next week in Saudi Arabia, not between President Putin or me but between high-level officials. And Ukraine will be part of it, too," Trump added.

As Dmytro Lytvyn, the Ukrainian president's communications adviser, announced, the Ukrainian side does not plan to talk with Russian representatives during the Munich Security Conference.

"Ukraine's position remains unchanged. Ukraine must first talk to America. Europe must be part of any serious dialogue for the sake of real and lasting peace," the official said.
